The SLT Ethos

Sussex Learning Trust’s vision, mission, and values are firmly rooted in our ethos, which defines why we exist: to be a positive force in our local communities by delivering the highest quality education to the young people we serve.

We are committed to helping every student thrive—academically, personally, and socially—so they leave school equipped with the skills and values needed to make meaningful contributions to society.

By investing in their future, we strengthen not only individual lives but also the wider community as a whole.

Our Mission

  • To promote and support the best interests of children in the communities it serves
  • To advance education for the public benefit
  • To exercise civic duties and responsibilities for the wider good of the local community

Our Values

Our values are underpinned by the 7 Principles for Public Life (Nolan principles).

Equally, all of our academies have either received, or are preparing to obtain, the Character Education Quality Mark from the nationally recognised ACE (Association for Character Education) for our curriculum. This promotes the essential characteristics that young people should be encouraged to develop in formal education.

Sussex Learning Trust Values (and related Nolan Principles)

  • Respect (objectivity & selflessness)
  • Integrity (objectivity & accountability & honesty)
  • Resilience & Perseverance (leadership)
  • Kindness (selflessness & openness)
  • Confidence (Leadership)
  • Optimism (leadership)
